Audubon County Memorial Hospital & Clinics is a 25 bed, Critical Access Hospital serving Audubon County and the surrounding areas, with the mission of “Excellence With Quality and Compassion to Those We Serve.”
Our services include emergency services, acute care, skilled nursing services, laboratory, radiology, respiratory therapy, sleep studies, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and surgical services. In addition, we offer several specialty services including orthopedic, mental health, audiology, plastic surgery, hand and microvascular, sports medicine, pain management, podiatry, dermatology, oncology, spine surgery, cardiology, urology, head and neck surgery, and urology. We also operate two rural health clinics, Audubon Family Health Clinic and Exira Medical Clinic. Our clinics offer complete care from newborns to senior adults by providing well child check-ups, age-appropriate preventative care, sports and school physicals, immunizations, and treatment of occasional and ongoing illnesses.
Audubon County Memorial Hospital & Clinics was recently named one of the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in the United States by The Chartis Center for Rural Health, for the seventh time. Audubon County Memorial Hospital & Clinics was also named a 2017 “Top 20 Critical Access Hospital” in the nation by the National Rural Healthcare Association (NRHA).
Company History
Audubon County Memorial Hospital was established as a 29-bed acute care county owned hospital in 1952 to serve the residents of Audubon County and surrounding areas. In the year 2000 the hospital was designated by the state of Iowa as a “necessary provider” making it eligible to become a critical access hospital. The hospital converted to a 25-bed critical access hospital in December 2001. ACMH has approximately 120 employees and includes two health care clinics; Exira Medical Clinic and Audubon Family Health Care Clinic. Audubon County is governed by an elected seven-member board of trustees who serve six-year terms. As a county facility, the hospital is subject to open meeting laws under Chapter 21 of the Iowa Code and licensed under Section 135B of the Iowa Code regulated by the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals.
Our organization has grown over the years by adding additional services, medical staff and modern technology while continuing to provide the same family-oriented, high quality care that has been our cornerstone since the day we opened our doors to provide care to our very first patient. Within the limits of its resources, the hospital provides a comprehensive range of healthcare services to respond to the needs of the citizens residing in its service area.
In 1998, to meet the needs of the Audubon County residents, a major inpatient addition to the facility opened for service. The original part of the hospital was updated, and outpatient specialty clinics were run in this area. In 2005, a two-bay ambulance garage complete with decontamination showers were built. In the fall of 2007, a major addition to the existing facility was completed; including a new fitness center, patient lounge, education center, and a medical records department. In 2011, ACMH purchased the medical practice of Dr. James Cunningham which became Audubon Family Healthcare Clinic. A renovated outpatient clinic opened in the spring of 2013 which allowed residents of Audubon County to access quality care from top specialists around the state.
In May of 2017 ACMH changed its logo and name to Audubon County Memorial Hospital and Clinics. The hospital has received numerous awards including the 2017 award as a Top 20 Critical Access Hospital in the nation by Becker’s iVantage.
